AUDITION AGREEMENT

Your child may soon be auditioning for the 2022 Rhythms Junior Performing Company.  Being in company is a year long commitment, a great learning experience, a wonderful way to make new friends, and a ton of fun!  This group is a way for our younger kids to get a taste of the professionalism of being on a competition team without quite as much intensity and more fun and learning.

Before we hold auditions, we want to explain more about our plans for Junior Company this year and the commitment the Junior Company members would be making.

What is Junior Performing Company?

Junior Performing Company is an opportunity for those students who want to perform more, be a leader in our studio community, and get to spend more time with their Rhythms friends.  The group will be doing four performances throughout the spring at both large and small venues.  The group will include both singing and dancing but no one will be required to sing by themselves.

The group is for intermediate to advanced performers because the students need to be skilled and be quick to learn.  Although most performers do improve their technique throughout the year, that is not the aim of performance company.  This is why we require students to take other classes to work on their technique.  Company members instead get very good at learning to adapt to every new venue and situation.  We will learn a couple numbers very quickly and then re-stage them for every show we perform.

Paige and Camilla will be coaching this group and are really looking forward to working with the students.  We may also have a student assistant and some guest instructors.

Who Can Audition for Junior Performing Company

Students entering grades 3-7 in September 2022

We will cast students in the group who we feel are ready for the group based on their ability, maturity, interest, and commitment level.  We need at least 10 students to make the team in order for us to have junior company.

What to Wear: dance clothes and jazz shoes

What We Will Do: cross-floors (turns, leaps, pirouettes, etc.), and a jazz dance combo.  Kids can also sing a song for us if they love to sing - acapella or we can play a karaoke track from youtube for you!

If you cannot attend auditions: Please email the studio.

The Junior Company will be announced Friday, September 30th.  We will send out an email to everyone who auditioned and their parents with the list of dancers who will be in next year’s Company.  This is a new idea at Rhythms.  We will need a minimum number of students to move forward with the group so spread the word.

WEEKLY REHEARSALS & PERFORMANCES

Junior Company class will be every Wednesday from 5:00-5:45 beginning October 5, and running through the end of May.  We will follow the schedule of the studio and take the same weeks off.

They will get to perform at 3 local shows (during the spring).  These might be at retirement homes, malls, or local events.

They will get to attend one competition and compete two numbers.  This competition will be on March 18 or 19 in Burlingame.  You’ll be responsible for getting your dancer to the competition.

They will also get to perform in a few of our Rhythms shows.

Winter Recital - January 28th

Competition Showcase - June 3rd

Spring Recital - June 4th.

Company Fees

What your Company Fees Include:

Weekly rehearsals for the year

3 performances

1 competition - compete two dances

2 Costumes (company members will keep their costumes)

Company T-shirt

Staff Event Expenses (for staff wages during shows)

Admin Fees (prep and organization time for coaches, staff, and bookkeeping)

Fees:

Your total fee for company is $440.

This fee will be divided up for monthly payments over 8 months: $55 per month (October through May)

Fee Policies:

The junior company fee is non-refundable.  If a student cannot finish out the year, you still owe the full $440 fee.  We highly, highly discourage anyone from quitting company.  It is very difficult on the group as a whole and teaches your child that they don’t need to fulfill the commitments they make.

Company Requirements and Expectations

Each junior company member is required to take the following:

The elementary or middle school dance class AND either Ballet, Tap, or Stretch Turn Leap

OR

The Rhythms musical in fall AND spring and one weekly dance class at Rhythms

Good attendance is a must.  If we feel that a student misses too many classes, there may be consequences.

Company members are expected to be kind and considerate to every other company member.  In company we are ALL friends regardless of which classes we take, how old we are, or what school we attend.

We believe that Company members should be good role models for our other students and carry themselves in a respectful manner at all times.  They should be good representatives of Rhythms Performing Arts and represent our studio in a positive way.  This means that these dancers must participate 100% in all of their dance classes, be kind to fellow students, helpful to their teachers, and hardworking at all times.  Being a Company member is an honor and a privilege and should not be taken for granted.
